November is here and that means holiday gatherings are around the corner. Pies, casseroles, and lots of buttery rolls. Mmmm… so, if you’re looking to enjoy that pie and feel great about it, know that you’re in luck living here.
Because, as many neighbors in the area know all too well, Raleigh hosts tons of races, from 5ks to marathons, throughout the year. But, it’s fall running that many enjoy the most — crisp air, turning leaves, and welcomed sunshine. Most recently, was the Oktoberfest Run Green 8k (many dressed up, including a whole team of Red Barrens) and Monster Dash 12 (Halloween costumes aplenty). This weekend is the City of Oaks marathon (half and full that takes runners all the way to Shelly Lake and back). And the annual 8k Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd (benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, last year runners helped them raise over $28,500).
After a downtown race, you can find great spots to enjoy some food, drinks and atmosphere; we went to Boylan Bridge Brewpub.
Special shout out to The nOg Run Club for choosing some awesome shirts this year — that I will actually wear again and not secretly loathe because it only adds to a ridiculous pile of T-shirts I never wear! Hooray!
